Eric Cote was hired in 2016 to provide crisis communications support to the Cluny School, a small Catholic pre-k through grade 8 school in Newport, Rhode Island. He was hired because the school was facing financial challenges and needed his counsel to help develop messaging to parents and the school community around layoffs needed to help stem financial losses. In early 2017, Eric was retained again to help the school develop a messaging campaign around its closure, which was announced in February of 2017. He provided draft remarks to the Head of School to break the sad news which was delivered at meetings with faculty, staff and parents. He also drafted and distributed a press release announcing the closure and liaised with the media on behalf of the school.
